While in Madagascar, I did not have a fix plan for my visit. So when someone asked me if I was interested in visiting the Andringitra National Park, some 50km south of Ambalavao, I just said yes.
With an area of over 300 square kilometres, the national park is characterized by high mountains, deep valleys, and ridges. It also houses the second highest peak (at over 2,600m) in the island country.
50km is a long distance in Madagascar. We first drove south on RN7 for about 35km. That was the easier part. Then once we were on the minor road, we could not move without a true 4×4 vehicle (though the one we used must be older than 30 years) , even though it was on dry land.
That was how my three days’ camping in the valley started.
